Happy February everyone! This is the first of an ongoing series of updates posts, I'll be doing these for both photography and design every month so I can keep you all updated on my projects! I've been back in school, so that's where most of my projects come from, but I personal projects will pop up every now and again as well. Also, many of these may be up on my Instagram as well, so for more "real time" updates, follow me there at @hswrightphoto
Starting multiple projects means my sketchbook looks a lot like this. This page is for a branding assignment for a city, I'm branding Tel Aviv. The first element to work on is a logo and tagline, so all these sketches are logo designs. Why are there so many? Because the good ideas are rarely the first ones. My professors regularly require upwards of 20 logo ideas for a single project to make sure we're not settling. For the Tel Aviv project, I'm inspired by the fact that the city has the largest number of Bauhaus buildings outside of Germany, so many of my logo designs are inspired by the Bauhaus design movement.
These two images are drafts for an Intermediate Image project. This class is easily one of my most demanding, but most rewarding. The assignment is to create an advertisement with something other than print materials. My first idea was for Lipton tea, and their slogan is "Drink Positively" and I created their slogan out of loose leaf tea around a cup of brewed tea. After feedback from my professor and classmates, I went with a different idea.
My ad concept for Tazo tea wasn't 3D lettering like the project originally required, but the concept is strong enough that the professor accepted it, which was a relief. Tazo's slogan "Brew the unexpected" made me immediately think of their peculiar blends, like Glazed Lemon Loaf and Butterscotch Blondie. I decided to use Vanilla Caramel Chai for my project, so I went out and bought the tea and ingredients that would go into it and photographed them in different ways. The project isn't close to finished but I'm over the moon with these images. I actually posted this one on my Instagram and Tazo liked and commented!
In Intermediate Image we also have weekly exercises. The first was to do a "Me Collage" as a fun way to introduce ourselves to our classmates. My collage showcases, the languages I'm learning or want to learn, my love of tea, and my favorite Bible verse among other things!
The second weekly assignment was an album cover! These two images were what I turned in, for the Regular Irregular album from K-pop group NCT 127. The teal of the house matches the color on the actual album and the glitch affect is inspired by the album's concept itself, which explores reality and dreams.
I'm only a month or so into the semester, but I'm already so busy! It's hard work, but having projects I'm proud of and can show off at the end of the day makes it worth it. Next week my photography update will be up, so keep an eye out for it!
Thanks for reading!
xx, Hannah
