Hello all! I mentioned that this post was coming, and here it is! I'm happy to share the ways I wind down at the end of a day. These are more the things that I do at the end of a day, I don't have a set order that I do them in. I did forget to take photographs, finals are on my brain, but I made a cute graphic instead!
These are in no particular order, but these are the things I try to do every night.
Study Languages
I study my languages right before bed because most of the time, I don't have time during the day. I use Duolingo, which has a really user-friendly interface so it makes studying quick and easy. I do a minimum of three lessons a day, one for each language I'm learning, but if I have time I might do more if I'm trying to complete a topic. Duolingo keeps track of your progress by using streaks, so that also motivates me to do it every day.
Shower and Skincare
I'm a night shower person, and if I wash it I'm sure to leave enough time for my hair to air dry before going to sleep so it doesn't look all crazy in the morning. The routine of taking time for me at the end of the day helps me relax and get my brain out of work mode.
Prepare for the Next Day
This is the time where I pull out my bullet journal. I'll check the day's to-do list and look at the next day to see if there is anything important. I fill out my habit trackers and do my one sentence for the day, and then color the day's square in my the year in pixels page. Here is a post all about my bullet journal system! This step might also include laying out clothes for the next day packing up my school bag if I have an early class.
Tidy Up
I'm a very clean person, so I like to do a sweep of my space at the end of the day. I'll clear off my desk and put everything where it needs to be and also do any dishes that I left for the end of the day.
Drink Tea
Tea really helps me wind down at night, I'll normally make a cup of tea and sit down to watch a show or something to calm down. My favorite is peppermint tea with a little lemon juice, it doesn't have any caffeine and I like the citrus flavor with the peppermint.
Chill Time
I just mentioned this, but I like to have some time before going to sleep that is spent not doing work. If I did work all the way up to going to bed, I would just lay in bed and continue to think about it. Time watching Netflix or reading a book helps my brain disconnect from work so I can actually fall asleep when I do go to bed.
Set Alarms
This one is pretty vital for most people, I think. My range for the time I get up in the morning is 7-9 so I'll turn on whatever alarms I need for the next day. If I have an 8:15 class, I set my 7 am alarm, but if I don't have anything going on until later in the day, I'll set my alarm for nine and sleep a little later.
Go to Bed
The last step! I try and go to bed at reasonable times because if I don't get enough sleep, I am not a nice person. Lately the latest has been 12, which is late for me, but I shoot for 11. Last year I would go to bed at 10:30...where did those days go??
And that's my night routine! I'm confident that people will share some of the same things in their own routines, but if you saw something new here you want to implement into your own routine, go for it!
Thanks for reading!
xx, Hannah
